Fire Compartmentation Surveys

What is Fire Compartmentation?

Fire compartmentation is the division of a building into separate fire-resistant compartments using appropriately constructed fire-rated walls, floors and ceilings. The purpose of compartmentation is to help contain fire and smoke within a defined area for a specified period, restricting its spread to other parts of the building. Effective fire compartmentation helps to protect escape routes and adjoining areas, giving occupants valuable time to evacuate safely while also helping to limit fire and smoke damage throughout the property.

The continued effectiveness of compartmentation relies upon the integrity of the fire-resistant construction. Openings and penetrations created for building services such as pipes, cables, ducts and ventilation systems must therefore be appropriately fire stopped to maintain the required level of fire resistance.

Fire Compartmentation is defined by the buildings Fire Strategy Plan.

Fire Compartmentation Survey

As part of our comprehensive Passive Fire Protection services, Firewall provides professional Fire Compartmentation Surveys for commercial, industrial and public-sector buildings throughout the UK.

Our surveys can include both non-invasive and, where required, invasive inspections to assess the condition and integrity of existing fire compartmentation and identify areas where fire resistance may have been compromised.

Our experienced surveyors inspect fire-rated walls, floors, ceilings, service penetrations, risers, voids and associated fire stopping, identifying defects, damage, unprotected openings or installations that may affect the intended performance of the fire compartment.

Following the survey, Firewall can provide a clear and detailed report identifying our findings and any recommended remedial works required to reinstate the integrity of the building's fire compartmentation.

Effective fire compartmentation is a fundamental element of passive fire protection, helping to protect occupants, escape routes and property by restricting the spread of fire and smoke throughout a building.

Fire Survey Compartmentation Report

On completion of our Fire Compartmentation Survey, we will issue a comprehensive survey report detailing the effectiveness of the measures you have in place to resist the passage and spread of fire and highlight any areas of concern and recommended improvements that should be made to the structure of your building to ensure it is compliant.

Our Fire Compartmentation Survey covers everything from fire rated walls, ceilings, doors & cavity barriers.

To meet the legal requirements of the RRO, building owners and occupiers must ensure that the fire compartmentation in their buildings is robust and being adequately managed and maintained.

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, organisations must ensure that the fire protection components within a building: “are subject to a suitable system of maintenance and are maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.”
